What is a Community Mobiliser?
Some of you maybe familiar with what a Community Mobiliser is or had contact with one, others may not even have heard of us before! So let us enlighten you…..

A Community Mobiliser works within a community to support them to have a voice in how the Community is run. Our role is to make sure that as many people from the Community as possible get involved in activities, volunteering, receive relevant training and be a part of local groups and decision making.

Our goal is to ensure projects are sustainable which doesn’t mean throwing lots of money at it – it means that local people are involved, have a set goal in sight that grows and changes to meet the needs of the wider community.

It takes time to achieve all of this but we are committed to our role because we are passionate about people and their voice within their community.

Lakes Estate
Hello, my name is Miriam Barrett and I am the new Community Mobiliser for the lakes Estate. I have recently moved over to Milton Keynes so I can sympathise with anyone who is new to the city! My home town is Luton and I have always been involved with my local community in some way; whether it be working as a family worker or voluntary work with children and young people…I have also been to other countries, such as Thailand and Mexico and taken part in voluntary projects; working in orphanages or teaching English to school children….I hope that my experiences will help me, as I learn and grow into my role….

I have been busy so far including getting to know some local people on the Lakes estate as well as going into schools, community centres, churches and local organisations. What I would like to know from you is what sort of activities would you like to see happening and how would you like to be involved in your community? I you have any skills that you would like to put to good use or if you would like some training and don’t know where to look, then please get in contact with me. I shall be based in and around the lakes and you can also  contact me on 07738 405368 or email me Miriam.Barrett@mkcvo.co.uk
