Community Orchard

In 2006 the Town Council formally took over the management of the some old allotment land by Manor Fields which had been empty for several years.  The Town Council had a vision of turning this derelict ground into a thriving community orchard. Work on the orchard started in February 2006 when the site was cleared ready for planting.

With funding support from EBMK (Shanks First Fund), Milton Keynes Council and Tesco, the Town Council was able to progress with its dream for a tree lined walk, complete with disabled access to the footpath and seating.

Orchards Art

Local school children were invited to draw what they would like to see in the orchard.  From this a simple design was chosen to provide a location for an orchard with full public access.

There are various types of apple tree and some cherry trees at the orchard.  Local schools are using some of the land for allotments and are growing their own fruit and veg and incorporating this into their “healthy schools” projects.

The community orchard is at Manor Fields, near the sports ground, parking can be accessed by the entrance on the V4 Watling Street.
